President and CEO

The Mississippi Chapter is seeking to fill the senior leadership position at our Education Foundation, which administers our School to Career and Adult Craft Training programs. Applicants should have experience in workforce development, the public education system and it’s relation to workforce development and a road familiarity with the commercial and light industrial construction industry. Position is based in our Jackson, Mississippi office and some travel is required. Excellent salary commensurate with education and experience. Standard fringe benefit package which includes transportation.

Investment in Nonresidential Structures Slows Sharply During Second Quarter

Investment in the nation’s nonresidential structures rose 5.3 percent in the second quarter of the year, following a revised 7.5 percent increase in the first quarter of 2012, according to the July 27 gross domestic product report (GDP) by the U.S. Commerce Department.

Senate Democrats Vote To Pass Small Business Tax Hike

The U.S. Senate July 25 voted 51 to 48 to pass the Middle Class Tax Cut Act of 2012 (S. 3412), which, if enacted, would result in a massive tax increase on business income, capital investment and family succession. In addition, the Senate voted 45 to 54 against theABC-supported Hatch-McConnell Amendment to S. 3412 that would have forestalled the looming fiscal cliff facing America’s job creators.

Building More Than a Bachelor’s Degree

This spring, construction management students at Colorado State University (CSU) graduated with more than a degree under their tool belts. They are entering the workforce with construction experience in a community service setting through the CM Cares program. CM Cares, which began in 2010, teaches the importance of community service, leadership, team building and ethics by allowing students to apply classroom skills to real-world projects that benefit a local family or organization.

Reasons Why Davis-Bacon Doesn't Work for People Who Do

Surveys are inefficient. DOL depends on the voluntary submission of wage rate data on its form WD-10, collective bargaining agreements, and information from other agencies. Only a few surveys can be done in a single year. Once surveyed, an area may not be resurveyed for many years; some surveys are over 20 years old.
