ABC Makes Final Arguments Against OSHA’s Silica Rule

ABC and its allies in the construction industry once again cautioned OSHA that if the agency moves forward with its proposed rule to address silica exposure in the construction industry, contractors will be stuck with unnecessary regulations that are technologically and economically infeasible to implement.

Vice President, Workforce Development and HS&E

JOB OVERVIEW

Founded in 1950, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with more than 70 chapters representing more than 20,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms. ABC's membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry.

The Vice President Workforce Development and HS&E reports directly to the President and CEO, and serves as part of the executive team working in concert with other Vice Presidents. This key position provides strategic thinking, data and information to the Board, CEO, and other units of the association as appropriate for policy development and decision making purposes. This position is the primary contact for the association’s Workforce Development and Health Safety and Environment long range strategic objectives representing ABC to external agencies, corporations, partnerships, and regional workforce groups. We are looking for a transformational leader who may not have experience in all facets of Workforce Development/HS&E but has demonstrated their ability to grasp large complex strategic efforts and transform a significant element of a business.

Construction Backlog is on the Rise

ABC’s Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI) reached an all-time high in the second quarter of 2014, according to a report issued Aug. 19. After falling 2.8 percent in the first quarter, second quarter CBI improved 5.4 percent to reach 8.5 months. In addition, there were gains in every industry segment, in nearly all geographic regions and for firms of almost all sizes. ABC’s chief economist expects that trend to continue.

Construction Backlog Indicator Reaches All-Time High in Second Quarter

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI) reached an all-time high in the second quarter of 2014. CBI improved 5.4 percent following a 2.8 percent decline in the first quarter and currently stands at 8.5; up 3.6 percent on a year-over-year basis.
