WASHINGTON, D.C., March 14—Construction input prices expanded 0.3 percent on a monthly basis and 4.8 percent on a year-over-year basis in February, according to analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data released today by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). This represents the most rapid yearly growth in construction input prices in more than five years.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 15—Both nonresidential construction input prices and overall input prices fell in August as energy prices retrenched, according to an analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index released today by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Nonresidential construction input prices were down 0.2 percent on a month-over-month basis and 1.7 percent on a year-over-year basis.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Aug. 12—Nonresidential construction input prices were unchanged in July according to an analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index released today by Associated Builders and Contractors. Input prices for both the nonresidential construction segment and construction as a whole are 2.3 percent lower than they were a year ago.

Today’s report marks the fourth consecutive month that input prices have expanded following eight straight months of decline.

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 13-Construction input prices rose on a monthly basis in March for the first time in nine months according to an analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Producer Price Index released today by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Input prices expanded 0.9 percent on a monthly basis in March but are still down 3.4 percent on a year-over-year basis.

Prices for inputs to construction industries expanded by 1.1 percent in May, the largest month-over-month increase in more than two years and only the third time in the past 10 months that construction input prices have grown on a monthly basis. Year-over-year prices fell by 3 percent in May and have now fallen by more than 3 percent in each of the year’s first five months. The last time this occurred was the third and fourth quarter of 2009. Only three of the 11 key construction inputs—nonferrous wire and cable, crude petroleum and crude energy materials—experienced monthly price increases in May.

Year over year, construction materials prices are 1.5 percent higher. Nonresidential construction materials prices were unchanged in June, rose 0.1 percent for the quarter and increased 1.2 percent during the last 12 months.

National construction materials prices barely declined in December—dipping 0.1 percent—and are just 1.3 percent higher than a year ago. Average annual prices in 2012 were 1.9 percent higher than 2011 prices, a reflection of unusual price stability during the course of the year. Nonresidential construction prices were down 0.3 percent in December and are up 0.8 percent year over year. Annual prices were up 1.7 percent compared to the previous year.
